If we Lose Net Neutrality, we Open Pandora’s Box. Only you can close it.

Losing Net neutrality will open the lid of Pandora’s box. The negatives outweigh the positives. If net neutrality is abolished, the damage will not immediately be visible. Once the dust settles, and the crowds fall silent, and the ownership of companies pass hands… then the damage will be known.

One day, when Greed will shake hands with Control, there will be none who could stop it. The people shouted with outrage, and Control swiftly disconnected them from the internet. Greed, who slowly purchased the Internet Service Provider companies, had finally achieved a Monopoly. Control, who had successfully secured the political permission to alter speeds, could effectively block anybody from the internet by slowing their connection toward Absolute zero.

I do not wish to see the Bystander effect occur based on the assumption that “somebody else will take care of it”, or that “it’s not our responsibility”.  If you don’t help, then nobody will.  If you care about using the internet, and not being force-fed information, and you want to be able to choose what websites you can go to, then…

I strongly encourage anybody using WordPress, a Blogging Site, any form of website, or Social Media to help make this known.

Many Nonprofit Organizations, Companies, and Individuals are Joining the Day of Action on July 12: < https://www.battleforthenet.com/july12/ >.  You Can Help, Too!

Make posts and tell others.  A world without net neutrality means you could be cut off from all of the websites you enjoy to use.  Or you could be forced to pay extraordinary prices for access.  The possibilities are endless, and if net neutrality is eliminated, then there will be nothing stopping ISP’s from blocking your internet access.  They will be legally allowed to throttle your connection to websites of their choosing.  Even if there are claims that they will not abuse that power, and that they respect an open internet… what happens when the company is bought out by another person?  What happens when a new owner decides that they want to abuse their powers?  Once Pandora’s Box is open, it is very difficult to close it.

SITES: DISPLAY AN ALERT

On July 12, sites from across the web will display a prominent alert on their homepage that shows the world what the web will look like without net neutrality. Below are “spinning wheel of death”, “blocked”, and “upgrade” alert modals; plan to use the one that best fits your site to encourage users to send a letter to the FCC and Congress in support of net neutrality. To use these them, you just need to embed a bit of javascript in the header of your site. Click here to try them out, and then be sure to grab the code on GitHub.

And don’t worry, none of these will actually block, slow, or paywall your site. But, they will let your users submit a comment to the FCC and Congress without having to leave your platform. They will only show up once and users can click away.
